Reese to Host Drug Awareness Forum
11/2/2017
LIGONIER -- Rep. Mike Reese (R-Westmoreland/Somerset) announced he will be hosting a Drug Awareness Forum to offer parents and residents opportunities to learn more about the addiction problems impacting western Pennsylvania. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ligonier Valley High School Auditorium.

“Unfortunately, the drug and opioid issue has become one of the most important issues that is plaguing our communities,” Reese said. “If this event helps just one family identify a problem and seek assistance, then it will be worthwhile.”

The forum will include Westmoreland County Detective Tony Marcocci, Westmoreland County Drug Overdose Task Force Director Tim Phillips, Ligonier area police chiefs John Berger and Mike Matrunics, Commonwealth Judge Megan Bilik-Defazio, Magisterial District Judge Denise Snyder Thiel, as well as recovering drug addict Stephen Hart.

A variety of local organizations will also be in attendance to discuss services available to the community, including treatment and prevention.

The Ligonier Valley High School Students Against Destructive Decisions program is co-hosting the event and will provide refreshments and door prizes. They will also offer supervised activities for younger children. Reese said that the event is open to anyone who would like to attend.

“One thing is clear when it comes to addressing the opioid crisis-it will take multiple approaches including law enforcement, education and social services,” Reese said. “Forums such as these have the potential of pairing folks with any help they might need.”

For more information about the event, contact Reese’s Ligonier office at 724-238-2155.
