Reese and Krieger to Host Marcellus Shale Seminar Jan. 7
An informational seminar on Marcellus shale will be hosted by state Reps. Mike Reese (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) and Tim Krieger (R-Westmoreland) in conjunction with Penn State Extension from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7.

The seminar will be held at the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit, 102 Equity Drive in Greensburg.

“This is an excellent opportunity for area residents to get information on how Marcellus shale may affect them and the region,” said Krieger. “I encourage all those interested to come out and join us.”

Discussion will include Marcellus development in Pennsylvania with Penn State Extension educators reviewing the process, infrastructure components and current gas trends. Natural gas legal issues will be discussed and a representative from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will give a presentation on natural gas water use, treatment and disposal methods.

“The information provided through the seminar will provide residents with a full understanding of the role Marcellus shale may have on the future of Westmoreland County and Pennsylvania as a whole,” said Reese. “This is a perfect time to get your questions answered by the experts.”

Following the presentations, a question and answer session will be held. The lawmakers noted that the seminar is for education purposes only and no information provided should be considered legal advice.
